Located along the ancient path of the Via Francigena, a short way away from Radicofani's historic center, you'll find the Posta Medicea or "Osteria Grossa" designed by Grand Ducal architect Bernardo Buontalenti. The structure dates to the second half of the 16th century. The previous hunting lodge was rebuilt to create a large hostelry and staging post for hosting travelers coming in and out of Rome. The Posta Medicea of Radicofani is privately owned and is currently not open to the public, but guided tours are sometimes organised by local cultural associations.

Parks & Nature

Via Francigena is at its best in Radicofani. My favorite stretch is the ancient Via Cassia, the Roman road that connected Rome to Florence. Starting from the village you will leave the 21st century behind and will walk for miles along a dirt path in the middle of nature, very far from any signs of modern civilization. You will literally kick the original Roman pavement and meet ruins from time to time; the views are astonishing. I suggest you to organize well so that you have a means of transport to return to the town - follow it at sunrise or sunset.

Arts & Culture

From the seventeenth century, it stands on the site of a former medieval civilian building. Inside, with a single nave, there is a sixteenth-century Crucifix on the right wall, a polyptych of Sienese school, but above all the “Madonna with Child and Saint Francis, Elizabeth of Hungary, Cristina of Bolsena and Lorenzo”, masterpiece placed on the altar greater and attributed to Andrea della Robbia.
