Food Scene

Great coffee, food and relaxed atmosphere. Across the road from the Restorer's Barn and near some great dress shops.

I've never been disappointed with any meal I've had here. Good chefs and lovely staff. Open fireplaces in winter and a country pub atmosphere. Can't go wrong. Sometimes has live music in the beer garden in the summer.

Parks & Nature

Lovely for a stroll or a picnic (picnic baskets in the kitchen corner cupboard near the laundry). There's a sweet children's play area and barbecue area deep in the park. Also, across the road (towards town) there's a new precinct with a fantastic flea market, brewery, and Austrian coffee shop. The whole area is really worth a wander.

Arts & Culture

It's a gorgeous little bite-sized well-curated gallery (not big enough for the kids to complain) and has a museum downstairs that gives a bit of history. (I like the gift shop for cards.) There are lots of other little galleries in town.

Shopping

Saturday mornings, this is where the locals go to buy their fruit and veg. Some lovely bread and coffee and all sorts of stalls in between. (It's all over by 1pm)

Essentials

Has most things though sometimes stocks them in weird places so ask. Outside, opposite the market is a terrific butcher for proper country meat and the fruit and vege store next door has the best produce and great bread.

Getting Around

Apart from being a regular old country station, it also has a steam train that takes you to Maldon on wednesdays and Saturdays. Have lunch in this sweet little old gold town and wander around the shops before returning an hour later. (Or get one of your party to drive and pick you up in Maldon.)
