My favourite coffee bar in town, very conveniently located in a former art auction house just at the other end of the street. Gorgeous terraces and interoir. The owner, Valentien, won many international Barista contests. Good for breakfast, a small lunch or afternoon tea.

One of my absolute favourites.
Betty has been running this living-room-style bar for over 30 years. She is an icon of the city and many locals have been going there for generations. Expect candlelight, classical music, a rococo interior, an open fireplace and good conversations. Take your time, for Betty doesn't like to be rushed. This is her stage, and she is the main star of the evening.

Expect candlelight, classical music, a rococo interior, an open fireplace and good conversations. Take your time, for Betty doesn't like to be rushed. This is her stage, and she is the main star of the evening.
Literary cafe. Artsy crowd. Famous for its writer patrons. Often live jazz, or slam poetry sessions. Has the feeling of the roaring '20ies.

Ghent's most famous jazz bar, modeled after the famous Hot Club de Paris. Live jazz almost every night between 8pm-10pm. Crowded, energetic and young atmosphere, cheap drinks, open all night in summer. You have to walk through a long and narrow street to reach it, so no, you're not lost, this is really the entrance ;)

Inspiring bar that will make you believe you're in Paris. This is the place I go to when I have no plans, but I feel the night has something in store for me. I order my glass of wine, start reading my book, but within 5 minutes I'm usually in a lively conversation with the patron at the table next to me.
Great selection of wines, lovely homemade shrimp croquets. Si 'hi' to Suzy the maltezer dog from me.
