The Medieval town of Chinon is 23km from La Maison Tumtum Arbre, on the banks of the Vienne river, with winding streets up to the exceptional Forteresse Royale de Chinon, (open all year) listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Fortress was the preferred residence of Henry II and his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine and birthplace of their son Richard the Lionheart . The Fortress was also the location of Joan of Arc’s confrontation with the Dauphin Charles VII inspiring him to reclaim his kingdom.

Saumur is also home to the French Calvary Academy and it’s celebrated Cadre Noir. Guided tours are available most of the year with performances from February to October.
