Sightseeing

Though they have only existed since 2008, the PH&D Railroad Historical Society has truly made some significant strides in creating a very unique historical venue. There aren't too many places left in the country where one can get this close to both historical railroad structures and rolling stock as well as current railroad operations all within 3/4's of an acre. The office building/ museum, built in three phases from 1922 to 1946, was all but abandoned between 1985 in 2008, and nearly destroyed by neglect and vandalism. Since that time, the historical society has fully restored the exterior of the building, including replacing all the windows, much of the roof structure, and nearly all of the services into the building. When you begin to realize that this was all done with volunteer labor and very small amounts of financial donations, it becomes almost mind-blowing.

The Huron Lady offers reasonably priced boat tours of the Port Huron/ Sarnia area. The cruise was fun and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. There is a snack bar on board. Reservations are recommended. A good way to spend an afternoon in Port Huron.

The water is amazingly clean and refreshing. You can see freighters in the distance and it's not too crowded. It is friendly and there is no drinking. Seems like a great place for kids. There's the gravelly rock on the beach for the first few feet until you get into the water, then it's all sand, so some water shoes may be helpful for tender feet. However, it's not too deep, way out, so you can do a lot of swimming with ease. There is someone there renting floatable paddles and there is a concession stand with hot dogs and other food that is quite decent. Very nice place to go for a day.

Heading into the States for a road trip? Avoid the hustle and bustle of crossing in Buffalo or Windsor/Detroit and give Sarnia's Blue Water Bridge a try! Beautiful spot, nicely structured and always cleaned up even during snowstorms, the lines aren't crazy in length, and the process is always smooth and on point. It saves you a great time if you're crossing into Sarnia onto Michigan's east side, it would save you about 30-45 minutes rather than you going through Windsor. Great crossing point.

This beautiful lighthouse on Lake Huron is a sight to see. The tower wasn't open on the day we were there but the views and information did not disappoint. If you are taking a lighthouse tour of the Great Lakes or passing through St. Clair, I recommend you take at least 30 minutes to visit this spot and read all the information posted.

Walking around this park as a kid was an amazing way to get exercise, this park has been a staple of places to visit at least once every time from the animal park, to the duck pond, to one of the best beaches in Canada. this park virtually has it all. lots of room to walk, ride, skate, or bike, including a massive number of trails so you can switch it up from time to time as to make a visit never stale. also, a bit of a fun fact, there’s a memorial for Terry fox because he ran through the park back when he was running through Canada. another fact, do your best to avoid the park on Canada day, as the park is jammed park during this day.

Food scene

The restaurant is a feast for the eyes and there are so many things to look at and check out. There are two floors to the restaurant with the second level being much more loungey with books and games. We sat downstairs by the bar. There also was a small gift shop along with local artists art for sale. The waitress was friendly and attentive. There is a huge drink menu and we ended up getting smoothies. Sweet and refreshing! Tons of coffee drinks too. This is a great place for sipping a coffee and hanging out.

The feel of this place is just marvelous. It really feels like a pub. It's spacious and I adore the atmosphere here. They have an interesting menu that makes genuine attempts to be Irish themed. They have a full list of specialty drinks and craft beers for the millennials among you. I'll always be game to go here with any friend or family member.

What a cool place to have a glass of wine and appetizers. But the best part... Desert! Those desert are to die for especially the almond cones filled with heavenly cream. A great place to meet up with friends and chill. The staff is super friendly as well. Every time we go, we get a different "flight" and have new favorite wine. No sulfates = No headaches the next day either. It is a hidden jewel, deep inside the Riverview Plaza, but definitely worth the short walk from the parking lot of the Plaza.
