It is maintained in good condition and is one of the largest castles in the Mediterranean covering an area of 60 acres. The first castle on the site may have been erected during the time of Justinian I (ruled 527–565). The 6th-century castle may have been built on top of an already existent fortress. In the late Middle ages, the castle was the residence of Francesco I Gattilusio and his successors, especially the tower known today as the Queen's Tower. There is also strong evidence that the original acropolis on the site may have included a sanctuary to Demeter, Kore and Cybele. The areas of the city that were densely populated connected the two bodies of land with marble bridges, one of which can still be seen under a modern building. They usually followed a curved line. The straight begin at the old market called Epano Skala. It was also close to Metropolis Street and ended at the Southern Harbor. One could argue that the channel transversed what is now called Ermoo Street. By the 16th century, if not earlier, the channel was filled in. The castle is currently used for local festivals in the summer and tourist tours it is declared a historical site. Lately, there is a safe area to walk, bicycling or sit on a bench and enjoy the view around the castle. You can start either from the statue of liberty or from Epano skala neighbourhood.

The church of St Therapon dominates the city of Mytilene owing to both its impressive mass but mainly to the originality of its architectural type. The erection of this monument commenced in the beginning of the 19th century by the flourishing at that time Christian quarter and was completed in 1935. The architect was Argyris Adalis, Ziller's student. The architectural order follows the cross-in-square type; however, the monument constitutes a combination of elements from contemporary architectural trends that prevailed in the West (Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassicism etc). Gothic elements are prevalent as well, adding an impressiveness and a distinctive style to the monument.

Just 1km walking distance from our apartments to the "into the town beach", it is organised, you can enjoy the sea, your coffee and get a bite. Tsamakia Beach, often referred to as Plaz Tsamakia, is a popular beach located in the capital city of Mytilene on the island of Lesvos, within the North Aegean region of Greece. Renowned for its central location and the array of tourist amenities it offers, the beach attracts both locals and tourists alike. Its proximity to the city center and Mytilene Castle further enhances its appeal. The beach is characterized by its calm and serene environment, making it an ideal spot for rest and swimming activities. Despite its proximity to the city center, Tsamakia Beach manages to maintain a tranquil atmosphere. The beach is spacious and graced with clear water, though the shoreline is not particularly suitable for entering the sea. To counter this, stairs and two piers have been provided for easy access into the water. Visitors are advised to be cautious of sea urchins along the shoreline and to use shoes when entering the sea from the coast. Tsamakia Beach is a Blue Flag beach, a certification that attests to the excellent quality of its waters. It is organized and offers a variety of amenities including changing cabins, showers, sun recliners, and umbrellas. Additionally, a lively beach bar serves iced coffee, cocktails, and snacks to visitors. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy a game at the beach volleyball court available on-site. The beach is fenced and there is an entrance fee for access. Once inside, visitors can avail themselves of amenities such as sunbeds, umbrellas, tables, and chairs. Despite the entrance fee, the beach is usually crowded, especially during the peak tourist season. Getting to Tsamakia Beach is fairly straightforward given its central location in Mytilene. However, specific details on transportation and parking options are not readily available
