Padstow is a small picturesque but busy fishing port on the Camel Estuary. It gets very busy during the peak tourist season, particularly during the day. The town has a good selection of boutique shops, a good selection of pubs and a number of very good restaurants including Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant and Paul Ainsworth's No.6. Take time to take one of the many boat trips up the estuary to experience the sheer beauty of the area. Promise you won't regret it. When visiting Padstow please make sure you make the effort to walk around the harbour, taking the coastal path for a mile or so up the hill to the war memorial and what is a stunning view of the estuary and the famous Doom Bar, It's amazing. Padstow is also the start /end of the famous Camel Trail, which is the old railway line that was decommissioned as a result of the Beaching cuts and runs from Padstow up to Bodmin. Why not hire a bike or walk the trail, the views are amazing and the scenery changes from open sea views into dense woodlands with a small meandering River Camel. Wadebridge is around half way along the route.

If you have never been, the Eden Project is well worth a visit. Built out of an old and exhausted clay pit, Eden is an engineering and environmental miracle. It really does demonstrate what we as a human species are capable of doing to improve the environment in which we live. When buying tickets to Eden make sure you 'gift aid' your admission price as you will then be entitled to return free of charge, as many times as you wish in the next 12 months. It's great to see Eden in the different seasons of the year. They also host several large concerts during the summer months, so keep your eyes peeled for some great artists. There is something for everyone at Eden, with activities for kids, to lovely walks and interesting plants for the older generation. There is also a number of adventure activities that you can undertake, if your wallet allows!

If you like walking, don't miss out on a trip to Bodmin Moor, particularly on a clear day. The scenery is stunning and the views from the top of Rough Tor or Brown Willy are amazing.

A visit to Boscastle is well worth a couple of hours of anyones time. This is a quaint Cornish fishing village which survives on the tourist trade, but doesn't have the trappings of a typical seaside town. Boscastle hit the headlines in August 2004 when it suffered extensive flooding due to flash flooding. Since this devastation the village has been rebuilt, but still retains its natural charm and beauty. If you like to visit a good pub, the Cobweb Inn is simply fantastic. It is a great example of an olde Inn where you can imagine smugglers meeting up to barter and exchange goods. It really is a proper job.

Don't miss the opportunity to walk or ride at least some, if not all, of the Camel Trail - it's simply beautiful. Hire a bike for the day at either Bodmin, Wadebridge or Padstow and simply ride the trail. You can even hire an e-bike if you aren't up to cycling that far. The trail can get very busy mid/ late morning and late afternoon so try and avoid these times if you can.

Port Isaac is other wise known as Port Wenn, the fictional location for the Doc Martin TV series, as well as the home of the Fisherman's Friends. Whilst there is not a lot in this Cornish fishing village, it is well worth a visit to see if you can identify all of the different film locations. Whilst there, make sure you have a walk down the hill to Port Gaverne, another location regularly used in the programme. During the summer months, the Fisherman's Friends regularly do a session on the Platt down by the beach for the tourists free of charge. Check to see if this is on whilst you are there.

Set on a peninsular, Trevose Head is a place of natural beauty and is owned by the National Trust. It's a great location to visit. From Trevose Head you can look all the way down the coast past Booby's Bay & Constantine, down towards Newquay and you can look the other way toward Port Isacc. Its simply stunning and a great place to see the sun go down.

If you are looking to visit Port Isaac, why not take the scenic route via some of Cornwalls country lanes and pass through Port Quinn which is a lovely secluded cove. Another National Trust gem.

Constantine Bay is one of north Cornwall's best beaches, it has everything - sand dunes, rock pools, nice sandy beach, great waves for surfing / body boarding and life guards throughout the summer. To be fair, there is not a lot else to do there other than a small tea hut, a mobile coffee man and an an ice cream van. This beach never gets too full as parking it relatively limited.

Daymer is a beach located on the Rock side of the Camel Estuary. It's a sandy beach which is safe for children as it runs gently into the sea and is also great for rock pooling. The view from the top of Bray Hill is quite something if you can drum up the energy to get up there. Daymer is also a great location to either walk the headland to Polzeath and back, or walk along the estuary to Rock. Accessed via a narrow Cornish lane, parking is in a private field behind the beach.

Quite simply if you want to spend a little bit of time appreciating the wonderful scenery in Cornwall, Bedruthan Steps is not to be missed. Another National Trust site of natural beauty, the car par is located on top of the cliff next to a lovely tea room where you can enjoy the delights of a Cornish Cream Tea or Cornish pasty. Unfortunately at the time of writing the cliff path down to the beach is out of use due to damage caused by storms this winter.

Another fantastic beach which is ideal for surfing and body boarding. This beach has life guards present from Easter all the way through until October. Please note that this beach can get busy, particularly at the car park end of the beach, as there are two large fields which are used for car parking in the summer season. It is also the home of Harlyn Surf school should you wish to sign up for lessons. Harlyn is one of those locations where you can go for a BBQ on an evening or in the winter / cooler nights to grab some fish & chips and sit in the car park and simply enjoy the view.

Located next to Constantine Bay & Trevose Head, Booby's is another stunning Cornish beach, which is great for surfing & body boarding. But be aware that the beach is only revealed when the tide is out.

Terbarwith Strand is a small Cornish hamlet set in a rocky cove. At high tide the beach is hidden but twice a day a gloriously long sandy beach is revealed. Make sure you check the tide times before you go! Trebarwith is great for body boarding and has life guards in attendance during the summer. The Port William pub is located on the cliff above the beach, from where you can have a drink and or meal and simply enjoy the view. It's an ideal location to see the sun set. Car parking is limited, it sometimes pays to park at the first car park and walk the small distance down to the sea.
