La Parguera is an idyllic seaside destination found in Puerto Rico's southwestern region. In the town's main square, you will find a lively atmosphere filled with food kiosks, live music, and beautiful views of the Caribbean Sea. Unlike the rest of the seaside destinations found around the island, La Parguera doesn't have any beaches, but instead, it is surrounded by pristine cays. You can reach the cays by renting your very own small boat or arranging transportation with any of the local tour providers. Some of La Parguera's most visited cays are Cayo Enrique, Mata La Gata, and Cayo Caracoles. One of the island's three bioluminescent bays is also located at La Parguera.

Fajardo The clarity of the water there is like no other on the east coast of Puerto Rico. Ponce The protected sanctuary Caja de Muertos has one of the most crystalline waters in the south of Puerto Rico. It received the first Blue Flag distinction to a beach located at a natural reserve. There, you’ll be facing the open waters of the Caribbean Sea and watching a variety of birds that nest in the hills near the boulders. Its name, which translates to "coffin," derives from the shape of the cay.

Castillo San Felipe del Morro juts out of the corner of the islet towards the Atlantic Ocean, guarding the entrance to the Bay of San Juan. It was built during the 16th century, and inside there are exhibits illustrating its significance for the military and cultural history during the Spanish colonization of the New World. The sprawling lawn in front of the fort is a popular place to fly kites. Castillo de San Cristóbal is the larger of the two forts, was built later than El Morro, and is located at the inland entrance of Old San Juan. Being the tallest point of the city, there's a wonderful view of Old San Juan, as well as views of the coast all the way to mainland San Juan.

The stunning island of Vieques, just six miles off the coast, is home to a pristine wildlife refuge and the world's brightest bioluminescent bay. As the biggest of the islands sometimes referred to as the Spanish Virgin Islands, Vieques lies six miles southeast of the Puerto Rico mainland. The Puerto Rican poet Luis Llorens Torres dubbed it la Isla Nena (“Little Girl Island”), alluding to its perception as Puerto Rico’s little sister. Vieques offers breathtaking scenery, unparalleled beauty, unexplored spaces, and laid-back experiences. The trade winds that blow directly over the island also provide a perfectly tropical marine climate with minimal temperature fluctuations. Reaching Vieques can be done by air or sea. The fastest way is to catch a small plane departing from either SJU or Isla Grande airports (tickets range from $60–$90 per trip), and there is also a ferry that departs from the town of Ceiba (for $3-$5 and about 40 minutes from SJU airport).
