General Herkimer was wounded in a nearby battle of the Revolutionary home and was brought back to his home in Herkimer and died despite the efforts to save him. Cool home to visit and sometimes they have reenactments of time period culture on site.

Panther Mountain, also known as Echo Cliff, is a short 0.6-mile steep climb to a wide open cliff that provides an extraordinary view of the southern Adirondacks.

A local favorite due to its short distance and rewarding view, this trail is heavily used. The trail up is particularly eroded, with myriad loose stones of varying sizes, and exposed bedrock in many areas. The trail begins through beech-heavy mixed hardwood forest and slowly gains conifers as elevation increases. However, due to its relatively low elevation the summit does not harbor a holdout of true boreal forest as other higher Adirondack peaks do. There are many large rocks along the trail.

There is a day use DEC park nearby. You should not need to go here- but it is a nice place to swim and picnic when not staying at Soaring Eagle Lodge. It is going to be turned into a campsite in the next few years!

Driving around Cold Brook you may see old stately Victorian homes, sprawling farms, and even Amish in black buggies. Homes on the lake tend to be seasonal, yet there are many special homes on the lake. Soaring Eagle is one of those special homes!

Utica is a 35 minute drive from Soaring Eagle. Walmart, BJ's, Bass Pro, Lowes etc is 24 miles away along with other large grocery and variety stores. Locals say-"I am going to the city" and that is Utica- not NYC!

You will need to drive on dirt/gravel roads for a few miles
Don't worry- I do it every day- roads are in great shape (perhaps not the seasonal road that the DEC beach is on) but this can be avoided. They are well maintained in the winter too.

There are small quick stop markets nearby- but you may want to do the bulk of your grocery shopping on the way.

Soaring Eagle is located in a private "association" area.
Please stay on the roads and explore the 20+ acres on Soaring Eagle property. There is much other private land in the area - just respect the neighbors private land and do not explore their land. You can walk along the lake shore and collect driftwood with no limit!

Bring your snowmobiles, mountain bikes, and 4 wheelers

The Ohio Ridge Rider snowmobile trails connect to thousands of miles of other trails.

Soaring Eagle is extremely private.
Neighbors are not near the home- it seems you have the entire forest and lake to yourself! There is no traffic to worry about. It is the most private Airbnb on the lake in the area!

Dry fire wood
There is a large outside fire pit that usually has covered wood to burn. But if you want to guarantee it is completely dry wood- you may want to bring your own. Please do not use the stacked fire wood under the deck area- that is for the owners use in basement wood stove. The woods have plenty of wood to gather too!
