Found on the lower promenade at Saltburn. Very pleasant atmosphere, excellent service, delicious food - including the famous Crab Brioche eaten by Fred Sirieix and Nadiya Hussain as featured on BBC’s Remarkable Places To Eat. Stunning views especially from the outside veranda. Staffed by a friendly/cheerful team. A highly recommended dining experience. Booking recommended.

Fantastic views. On a heather-clad moor overlooking the Yorkshire village of Great Ayton stands Captain Cook's Monument, a striking obelisk erected in 1827 in memory of the seafaring famous explorer, who was born six miles away in Marton but grew up in Great Ayton. Captain Cook would have walked these moors when he lived at Great Ayton from 1736-1745. He attended the local school (now the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum) on the High Street.

Challenging, but rewarding walk to the top, with fantastic views of the coast & the moors. Roseberry Topping is a very distinctive hill & is only a mile from Great Ayton and sits above Newton under Roseberry. Its summit has a distinctive half-cone shape with a jagged cliff, which has led to many comparisons with the much higher Matterhorn in the Swiss-Italian Alps.

Only 15 minutes drive from Bumble Cottage with a glorious blue flag beach, award winning seafood restaurant and fish and chip shop, Victorian cliff lift and pier ! It also has a fantastic miniature railway that the kids will love as much as the dads ! ;-) It’s an enchanting Victorian seaside resort close to the Yorkshire Border and North York Moors. Saltburn was a popular spa town resort during the Victorian era, funded and founded by the big railway entrepreneur Henry Pease of the The Stockton & Darlington Railway. It’s a rich history and you could say that Saltburn was one of the first seaside resorts to boom as a result of the early passenger carrying railway routes! The town centre is brimming with independent craft shops, character guest houses and plenty of fine restaurants, independent bars and seaside cafes.

Take the train from Great Ayton to Whitby which travels through the moors. A beautiful, scenic journey which takes just over an hour and is very reasonably priced. Whitby is a town that offers something a little different to your ‘typical’ coastal resort and will no doubt surprise you when you visit. Famous for its connections to Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Whitby has always embraced its association with Gothic culture which is reflected in the town’s quirky streets, shops and Abbey ruins, and of course the annual celebration of the culture. Fantastic shops, lucky ducks, Whitby Jet & fish and chips ! Beautiful sandy beach too !
