Glenveagh National Park incorporates moorland, mountains, lakes and woods within its 40,000 acres of wilderness. Tours of the castle, as well as guided tours of the Italiante formal gardens are available, or you can join a ranger-led walk along footpaths through the grounds. Look out for red deer and golden eagles which have been reintroduced into the area.

Ards Friary and Ards forest park are two of my favorite places to walk. The retreat Centre lies on the Wild Atlantic Way and is nestled in 200km of woodland on the shores of Sheephaven Bay. The beaches are stunning and it has a wonderful aura of calm even on a stormy day.
Ards forest park has a large number of trails to choose from, giving the walker the opportunity to explore a variety of habitats from foreshore and sand dunes to semi natural oak woodlands on rock outcrops. It is possible to stitch together a number of trails that can take up to 6 hours, taking in the full circuit of the park. It cost 5 euro to enter the forest park and is well worth it. Facilities include, forest walks, car park, toilets, children's play area and a picnic site.

Crossing over the Harry Blaney Bridge you will continue on to The newly renovated lighthouse that has kept ships safe since 1818. Its windswept, panoramic location is truly breathtaking and the view of Lough Swilly and Mulroy Bay is one that won't be forgotten.
For music and the craic visit the Harbour. Next door to the Pub is Fisk, a restaurant specialized on seafood.

The Singing Pub is 5 min walk from Blue Pearl Apartment. It is a traditional thatched pub, restaurant and coffee bar. There is also an interesting walk just opposite the pub. You may notice a sign for Mevagh Graveyard pointing down a narrow lane, its just a couple of min walk to the old church ruin on the shore of Mulroy Bay.

Had lunch here today for the first time, food was great. I loved the vegetarian and vegan options, settled for the vegan enchiladas and garlic potatoes and I was not disappointed. Service was top notch and the place had a cool vibe about it. Prices were good value as well, will definitely be back next time I visit Letterkenny.

Neighbourhoods
Downings village is fronted by a popular blue flag beach and is a mecca for watersports enthusiasts. Fishing and Tweed making are the traditional industries of Downings, and both survive to this day. McNutts Tweed are renowned worldwide for the quality of their knitwear and tweed, they have a store in the village where you can check out their large variety of products.
Traditionally Downings is an Irish speaking area and many locals will move back and forth between Irish and English depending on who they are talking to.
The village is well served with a number of hotels, cafes, pubs and craft outlets.

Alcorn Tropical World in Letterkenny ( about 40 min away )is just a fantastic family day out ( especially if its a wet day ). It is so lovely to stroll around the place while hundreds of amazing tropical butterflies of all shapes and sizes fly around you freely.
