Upon doing so Mr. Metzger came across the original wood beams from the 1800's that he fell in love with and proudly restored to their original form giving the room a wonderful rustic feel. In 2016 as Doug retired his sister-law and niece "Carolanne and Jessica Metzger" took over the winery.

This place is great! Went with the family to get some ice cream and this place was pretty busy! What's so awesome about it is that it has a drive thru too! Though we waited in line outside since we had the dogs with us, and it was so nice out! They also have a cute little gazebo to sit in as well. They have tons of different ice cream flavors both hard and soft kinds. They do have doggy dishes as well for a little vanilla ice cream with a dog bone for your pup!

Although the town (village? not sure, it is really small) of Ashville is unlikely to be your final destination when you travel to the Southern Tier of New York, you should definitely stop into the Ashville General Store for a bite or sip of homestyle comfort.
The store itself is quite unique with an eclectic selection of dissimilar items such as farm feed, local arts and crafts, stationery, candy and pretty much anything else you would expect to find in a general store in the middle of nowhere. If you don't find anything you'd like to buy on the well-stocked shelves, make your way to the back of the store and order up some first class eats.
This is a no-frills-order-at-the-counter kind of place and the food will be brought to you at your booth (in our case it was two old church pews facing each other across a big wooden table). I ordered the half egg salad pita and cup of tomato soup, my wife ordered the bowl of chili. You pay at the front cash at the front of the store when you leave.
Both the chili and the tomato soup were made from scratch and served piping hot with crackers. The chili was rich and meaty, brimming with beans and tomatoes in a zesty but not too spicy base. Served with a side of grilled garlic bread, it was the perfect comfort food for a chilly spring day. My half pita sandwich was fresh, stuffed with a creamy and savoury egg salad. The soup was hot and had chunks of fresh tomato, the base nice and light. The shredded cheddar cheese on the soup took me back to my childhood when I would dunk my grilled cheese sandwiches in my tomato soup.
Two can eat lunch for less than $12 and do save room for a homemade cookie that they sell at the cash ($1.75 and worth every penny). Bon voyage and bien manger in the Southern Tier at this great little spot!
