Art gallery

The Royal West of England Academy was Bristol’s very first art gallery when it opened in 1844 and it’s just had a £4.5m make over! Inside are beautiful sweeping staircases, enormous galleries and balcony views across to The Victoria Rooms fountains. Exhibitions include world class art by contemporary artists through to the famous Old Masters. ‘Great art for everybody’ is the RWA’s mantra and they have loads of events, workshops and activities for kids. Entry is free to The Kenny Gallery and family activity space and there is a great new cafe and shop on site.

Every Bristol kid has spent happy rainy days in Bristol Museum and Art Gallery! It's full of all sorts of interesting things, Egyptian mummies, Alfred the Gorilla who used to live at Bristol Zoo, precious stones, butterflies in mahogany cases, beautiful ladies carved in marble and the famous wooden by-plane that was probably there when the Museum was given to the City by the Wills family. A great day out that the whole family will always remember.
