City/town information
New Alresford, or Alresford for short (pronounced Allsford) is a Georgian market town with riverside walks, specialist independent shops and is the UK’s capital of watercress farming. There are tea rooms, coffee shops, pubs, shops and some fabulous walks (in particular the river walk by the Fulling Mill and the Eel House) and the Millennium trail alongside the River Arle. The main attraction in Alresford is The Watercress Line, you will hear the steam trains rumble past throughout the day.
Alresford was selected as the No. 1 Best Place to live in the countryside by The Sunday Times and voted County Life’s Favourite Market town in the southeast.
