This is iconic Joplin. Considered the largest, continuous flowing waterfall in Missouri, this beautiful location can be reached from tree covered roads. Once you’re there, you must be able to walk on uneven, rocky terrain to reach the falls. Go with a buddy for safety and precaution and let someone know where you are and when you’ll be back. This place is out of the way and sometimes doesn’t get phone reception. By the way, are you even from Joplin if you haven’t had pictures taken here?

If you’re here to see Route 66, this neat little spot is great for a quick photo op. There’s not much else to it besides that. If Joplin City Hall is open, walk across the street and down some ways to take a self-guided tour to see the Thomas Hart Benton murals. We have a wrap around canvas of one of them in our space. Benton’s work is stunning and is even part of the permanent collection of the MET and has been exhibited in MoMA in New York. Hackett Hot Wings is down the street if you’re looking for a drink or bite to eat as well.

Hackett Hot Wings is down the street if you’re looking for a drink or bite to eat as well.

We don’t just recommend this location because of the amazing life and accomplishments of Carver but for the sheer beauty and serenity of his home. The walk around the park is peaceful and memorable.

He discovered over 300 uses for peanuts and was the inventor of instant coffee, chili sauce, Worcestershire sauce, shaving cream, and much more. He was the first black American to have a national park named after him. We don’t just recommend this location because of the amazing life and accomplishments of Carver but for the sheer beauty and serenity of his home. The walk around the park is peaceful and memorable.
There is no cost to visit. Open daily from 9 am - 5 pm (closed on national holidays). We highly recommend visiting.
