Breakfast

Bird Bird Biscuit has amazing options for breakfast. They also now serve lunch and even dinner, but let's focus on breakfast. There are lots of options, but the Queen Beak and Lovely Day are two of our favourites for breakfast. The biscuitarian is a great vegetarian option. Pro tips: - Order online and then walk over (they are just 6 minutes away). They don't have a lot in the way of seating; just a few spots outside at a counter. So you will probably want to bring it back to eat it here. - They get really busy (30 - 40 mins wait) after 10am on weekends. Order before 9:30 to avoid a long wait. - If you are in a group, order an extra biscuit with a side of the spiced honey. So good! - If you really want to do things right, order the Ojo Rojo (horchata with espresso) coffee from El Chilito. You can either pick it up on the way or send one person there while you pick up the biscuits. Walk time: 6 mins Drive time: 2 mins

This is much much more than a coffeehouse. They have a full kitchen and serve a wide variety of sweet and savory options. They have lots of indoor seating and a really big garden area with outdoor seating. I don't thin I have ever sat inside because the garden is just so nice. You order at the counter, take a number and they will deliver the food to your table. The coffee works a bit differently. You have to pick it up. So either leave someone behind to wait for it or check back in after 5 minutes and pick it up yourself. In terms of what to eat, my son is a huge fan of the breakfast BLT. I really like their vegan tofu scramble and their huevos rancheros. My wife enjoys the terra taco and the oatmeal. Walk time: 20 - 35 mins Drive time: 5 mins

Mi Madre's is a great choice if you want someplace to sit, some people want breakfast tacos and some people want a bigger plate, or if you slept in a bit and want a mix of breakfast and lunch options. It's right across from a beautiful neighborhood garden Walk time: 5 mins Drive time: 2 mins

This is a great hole-in-the-wall place that makes big, cheap, tasty tacos. It's a really simple. There's a window. You give them money, they give you a taco. Which is why everyone just calls it "taco window" :). This is another place with no seating, so you should plan to bring your tacos to East Austintacious. Pro tips: - You will need to walk over to order. There is an online ordering option but it does not really work for breakfast - Be prepared to wait 5 - 10 because they cook everything fresh - If you start the coffee before you leave, there will be hot coffee when you get back - Or get the "ojo rojo" (horchata with espresso) at El Chilito. Yes, I know they also have breakfast tacos. But the ones from Taco Window are better. Walk time: 4 mins Drive time: 2 mins

Saddle Up might seem like a strange breakfast recommendation because it is more known for high end tacos and a great beer garden, but I promise you it is a good breakfast destination. They have a great selection of pastries, including kolaches with brisket or sausage from Micklethwait Craft Meet, which is run by the same people (a neighbor just down the street from us). Pro tips: - The Micklethwait brisket kolache is great. If they have run out, then the sausage is a great choice. - They have a variety of pastries. I liked the coffee cake, which they usually seem to have. - They have draft cold brew coffee - The frozen mesquite bean coffee is unique. I don't think I've seen it anywhere else. Walkable coffee options

There are a several options for coffee that are nearby. These ones breakfast options as well.
Houndstooth makes some of the best coffee in Austin. They are known their meticulous standards for roasting and brewing. They do serve some food in addition to coffee. The selection really varies day-to-day, so it is hard to recommend anything specific. Pro tips: - I tend to go with an espresso. They do it really well, so why dilute it with anything else? - The almost always have a off-the-beaten-path specialty latte, which you can get either iced or hot, which is always a good adventure if espresso isn't your jam - This is a great stop if you are catching the light rail downtown or to Q2 stadium - They do also have a couple of beer taps, one of which is usually serving Electric Jellyfish, a great Austin-brewed hazy IPA - There is some parking, but it is kind of hidden. Turn into the parking lot. There is open parking along Alexander Ave. There are also 2 - 3 spots for Houndstooth after you take a RHT onto 17th or 2 - 3 more open spots that are not reserved for any specific store. Walking time: 6 mins Drive time: 2 mins
