It's the closest restaurant to my apartment and it has excellent soul food at a reasonable price. Very "American"-- and the fried chicken is even organic.

Fun place for a walk/run during the day; bridge and Brooklyn views. Despite where the flag is on the map, it runs along much of the river and the footbridge to it is nearby at the east end of 6th St.
