Parks & Nature

The Old Man River bottom has miles of pathways for walking or biking. It's a great place for a walk - in the summer, the storks like to play at the weir. There are picnic tables scattered throughout the park - for single families as well as groups. And if you're in need of a good work out, running up the stairs to the top of the coulees will get you sweating. In winter, make sure to look up to the tops of the trees - you'll often see porcupines in hibernation.

Open year-round, the Nature Centre is a unique urban escape within minutes of downtown. Fun, free, family activity. It is a great place to visit with children. You can see Sophie, a gopher snake; Jerry, a toad; and a salamander in the building. The building is beautiful and eco, too. Climb the stairs to the roof to check out the view and enjoy the garden. Check out the website for scheduled talks and walks with the naturalists - they are amazing. Information on self-guided walks is available at the desk. The staff know everything there is to know about the local birds and animals, as well as the ecologies of the various landscapes in and around the city.

This beautiful park is just a few minutes' walk from my home. Great for walking, with a stocked lake for fishing. You might even catch a glimpse of the resident muskrats. It is also home to Lethbridge's only 18-hole Disc Golf Course. AND there's a beautiful new playground for children.

Miles and miles of trails for hiking and biking. In winter, look up, and you're likely to see porcupines in the tops of the trees. Lots of deer and different species of birds.
