The apart
Our 65 m² apartment is advantageously located with a breathtaking view of the Saronic Gulf and the beach of Vouliagmeni. But don't think you will be spending your days indoors, the 65 m² veranda allows you to entertain, sun bathe and watch the most beautiful sunsets in the comfort of your own home.
Note:
The apart was renovated in May 2011. We changed the flooring, painted the walls and refurbished all the exterior furniture.
Comfortably furnished, the two bedroom / one bathroom apartment is ideal for families with two children or for couples.
Even if you stay in, you will be practically living outside, having breakfast, lunch and dinner on the outdoor dining table and coffee or drinks on the sofa of the veranda. Kids like to sleep outside…
One nice advantage: In the afternoon, if the sun is too strong on the front veranda, you can use the back balcony for shade and coolness.
Equipment: TV, DVD player, internet wi-fi. In the kitchen: refrigerator, dish washer, washing machine, electric stove and oven, coffee-maker, juicer. (No micro wave!)
Disadvantages:
Mainly one: The apart is on the second floor and there is no elevator.
You can ask me anything you want about the apart via AirBNB.
The neighborhood: Vouliagmeni
This has been our holiday home for many years but we also lived here as a family (a couple with our two kids when they were born) for 3 years (winter and summer).
Just steps away from one of the city's best beaches, children's parks, banks, grocery stores and traditional Greek tavernas. But also close to Athens best night clubs.
Five minutes away (walking distance) from Vouliagmeni's natural lake and 40 minutes drive to the Temple of Poseidon in Sounio.
Location & transportation: Vouliagmeni is a seaside suburb at the south-west of Athens. It is in between Athens (18 km) and the airport (21 km) and on the way to Sounio (20 km), one of the best places to visit when in Athens. But if you want to move, then you either need you own transportation or you will use public buses (there is a bus stop 7’ from the apart) or a taxi. (A fare to the airport will cost around 25 euros).
Practical things:
There is a supermarket and a grocery store, a bank with an ATM, a bakery, all within minutes from the apart.
Swimming: You can try the best private beach in Greece (Astir Beach, € 15-25 in the summer) or the public "Okeanida" beach (6 €) or one of the free beaches around. You can also try the creeks of Vouliagmeni (my favorite option) where you dive directly from the rocks... Or you can try the Vouliagmeni Lake, a natural spa that also hosts cliff hanging world championships (you have to see the pictures...). You can also have nice walks next to the seaside.
Eating out: There is a lot to try; it depends on how much you want to spend. From top budget options (the ultra-expensive “Matsuhisa” at Astir Hotel) to moderate (great taverna of “Louizidis”) to very cheap ones (“Zahos” famous souvlaki). And a lot more: please, ask.
Entertainment: Coffee and drinks at one of the many cafes and bars, or ice-cream at “Waffle House”, one of the most reputed places in Athens.
Open-air cinema (a greek treat) at "Akti" cinema.
If you need help: We will be here to help with everything -- from the practical things to suggestions about sight-seeing in Athens or having a great time in Vouliagmeni and around.
