Catherine House - a traditional Swahilihouse

Our house, Catherine House has a large comfortable, relaxing rooftop terrace with a large dining table, two daybeds and a hammock. The house is situated two minutes from the historic center of Lamu town, the big market and three minutes from the seafront. Find your way for a stroll in the lively narrow streets, shopping or some of Lamus restaurants, for boat trips to nearby beaches, other islands and villages. Exclusive Beach House, Shela Lamu, Kenya

Located 100 m from the Indian ocean, the house consists of 4 en suite rooms amongst which 2 master bedrooms and 2 standard berooms. Please note that we limit the number of guests to a maximum of 6 in order to preserve the house, avoid stressing our staff and maximise your experience as a guest. Each room is self contained and has a queen size bed. Two of the master bedrooms have their own private outside verandah. The house is let with a Cook who does also all the shopping and a House boy.

In 2012 the award-winning architect Urku Sanchez transformed a dilapidated ruin into this elegant structure. The renovations were carried out with sensitivity to the Swahili architecture and Islamic culture of Lamu. With four spacious ensuite bedrooms and various sitting areas, the house can comfortably accommodate up to 8 adults and is ideal for families or groups of friends.

Umma House

Full house ready for guests! The typical Lamu courtyard is the center of it all, a serene space from which all other rooms emerge. The three-story building (360m2) with roof access offers an amazing view of the Indian Ocean under the makuti which protects from the rain and sunshine. This results in a beautiful, spacious and very comfortable house with "Umma House" as the name. The Villa has a total of three rooms all equipped with ensuite bathrooms.

Mbibo House in the Shela Dunes with Pool

Unwind in our peaceful garden oasis with a pool, dune views, and the calming breeze through our Mbibo (Cashew) tree. This 4-bedroom, 5-bath home includes a private chef and staff. Just a 15-minute walk to Peponi Beach or across the dunes to Shela/Kipungani, it's close to everything yet blissfully quiet. Complimentary airport pick-up and drop-off included. Kahindi takes care of laundry, shopping, cooking and more. He stays at the ground floor and has been helping out since the house was built. There is a Starlink Internet connection dedicated to the house. Please ask Kahindi for details.
