Learn the secrets behind Toronto's famous signs

Signs are landmarks that are often just as memorable as the businesses they advertise. Join a local architect for a 3.4-kilometer (2-mile) walking tour of some of Toronto’s most famous signs, from flashy neon signs to unique street signs. We’ll discuss how local laws and Special Sign Districts influence the look and feel of the city you see around you. • We’ll start by visiting two recently restored neon signs that adorn historic music venues and learn about the famous acts who performed there. • Next, we'll explore Chinatown and discuss the distinctive style of signs that have come to define this neighbourhood. • We'll continue along Dundas Street where you'll spot some smaller signs off the beaten path and hear about the colourful stories behind them. • Then, we’ll wander down to Nathan Phillips Square, where you'll have the opportunity to take a photo with the iconic TORONTO sign and learn how it came to be. Join me, a fashion designer, for a hands-on crochet and knitting workshop at my studio, HotPot Variety, to make your own sustainable piece of clothing—no previous experience necessary! • Hear about the history of crochet, yarn, and the bohemian culture that underpins Toronto’s history from the 1960s and ’70s to the present-day urban art of yarnbombing. • I'll walk you through the techniques for crocheting a seasonally inspired accessory, whether it’s a vibrant T-shirt design for summer or a hoodie balaclava for winter. • Get crocheting! Guided Farm Tour at Barking Goat Farms

Our Farm tour will include an interactive personal experience with goats, donkeys, chickens & friendly barn cats. When you arrive at the farm, parking is by the main gate & you will be met by Deborah or Brent, do introductions and go over rules for safety of both animals & humans. We will start off with the story of why/how we started the farm & how it has evolved over the years while you meet the chickens and our rooster Rico Suave. We will talk about different breeds, many colours of eggs & check out the nesting box. Next its on to the goats. We have a total of 34 goats of different sizes , colours & different breeds. Each one has their own personality & are extremely friendly. If you are lucky we might have some baby goats that you can snuggle, as we breed fall thru spring with kids being born spring thru fall. After some fun and lots of selfies, we will head over to the donkeys and pet them thru the fence. They are very sweet, love their head pats, and are also our guardians of the farm. World Food Tour in Toronto

We will meet in an accessible location that is walking distance from the neighbourhoods we will be exploring. We’ll start with some intros, then I’ll give you a quick run down of the tour. After checking in and making sure we have everyone, we will walk to our first food spot and get our first snack. I will give you a little rundown on the food and neighbourhood history. After everyone has gotten a portion for themselves, we will head to the second spot and repeat. This will continue on until we visit a handful of my favourite Toronto’s food hotspots. I’ll take you on a journey around the world as the different snacks we’ll be indulging on will be from various different cultures. Toronto is super multicultural and the food on the tour reflects that. After all of the spots have been hit, we will say our goodbyes and well wishes and you’ll be in the most delicious food coma you’ve ever experienced! Not only will you be blessing your taste buds with tasty food but you’ll be learning some history as well! Other things to note: - I am a people person and have worked in the service industry for a lot of years. - I am friendly, do not hesitate to ask me any questions and voice any concerns to ensure you have the best time! - I speak English, Portuguese, Spanish and French. - Cannot accommodate vegans, veg options available

Barefoot Earthing Experience - Muskoka

To start, we will meet outside at the Information Centre (it’s closed now) where I'll introduce the program and share the benefits of Earthing/grounding, barefooting in the forest, forest bathing and how to walk barefoot. You'll be taught how to safely explore Mother Nature in all seasons while in your bare feet. We will enter the forest where you'll be guided to do a short meditation to increase mindfulness while noticing the sensations we feel. You will be encouraged to have fun and try new experiences to explore sensations. We will hug trees with our bare hands. We will walk barefoot in the on the ground and try mud mucking, stepping on stones, feeling roots and moss, all in your bare feet. We'll explore the sensation of cold/hot/warm. We'll stay barefoot for a safe period of time, dependant on the weather. Your safety is of utmost importance. We'll take a break and have some Canadian Chaga Tea and a Cookie. We will end back at the Information Centre. Please arrive at our meeting point a few minutes early. Bring a daypack with extra dry socks and wear weather appropriate clothing.

Old Baldy, An Acrylic Painting Workshop

When you arrive at my rural home you will find ample parking. I will greet you and we will walk a short distance to the studio where you will find a newly constructed 600 square foot building. My studio is a workspace where we will create your unique painting. We will work from a painting of "Old Baldy," a local landmark, a rock face where rock-climbers climb and hikers hike. A photo of the escarpment will also be used as a reference for the painting. You will receive a blank 16 inch by 20 inch canvas, acrylic paint, use of easel, palette, brushes, aprons, and all other materials necessary for this workshop. You will be guided from start to finish and given both guidance and a gentle critique. I will speak about perspective, colour theory, how to start a painting, and other concepts relating to this subject. The painting will be dry enough to transport home at the end of the lesson. All cleanup will be left for me to do. Other things to note There is a possibility of getting paint on your clothing. It may stain even if washed off quickly. Although some guests with moderate disabilities have made it to the studio, it is not wheel chair accessible and may give people with limited mobility a difficult challenge.

Dim Sum for Health - Private Group

We will meet at the Sky Dragon Chinese Restaurant. We will sit down to a traditional Chinese tea brunch, called "Dim Sum". A variety of dishes will sampled, chosen especially for it's health benefits. You will learn what makes Dim Sum a balanced meal, from the methods of preparation, tastes, teas, and time. You can also texturize or letter stamp it to make it truly one of a kind. You'll leave wearing your new ring with a sense of great accomplishment and the perfect souvenir. Other things to note: This experience runs between 2.5-3.5 hours long depending on your design choices and work ethic. Average class time is 3 hours. Safety is important in the studio! Canoe Fishing Guide

We will fish out of a canoe, casting or trolling, as I teach you various techniques: wacky-rigging, drop-shotting, top water lures, and more! Fishing will be catch and release only. Join me for a fun time on the water! This experience is best suited for beginner and intermediate anglers. It is a fishing lesson and opportunity to learn tips, tricks, and skills. *Note that I am open to lake suggestions in the Huntsville/Algonquin Park/Haliburton/Orillia areas, and KAYAK fishing trips may also be possible - contact me for more details* Other things to note: Guests are responsible for lost/damaged equipment, and must sign a waiver form.
