They’ve been on the corner of Duke and Hillfoot streets since 2006, long before other new ventures started to open and, while you get plenty of light from the big windows, it always seems to sit in the shade and has this ‘summery’ feel to it. Great for a coffee and light bite - and their main meals aren’t bad either.

Heading east along Duke Street from the Nakodar is a real gem, dedicated completely to that ancient Shaolin art of Barbecue. Pitbeef, grilled and flamed meats and truly outstanding burgers are standard fare here - with the meats smoked using imported Texas oak. All of their food is locally sourced, their breads are cooked in small batches and they have rare beers and soft drinks imported from the USA. try it, you will not be disappointed.

An east end stalwart that recently branched out into the west end and has taken Partick by storm. Family run, with excellent staff, the food at Celinos is incredible. They have seats outside on Alexandra Parade when the weather’s nice but you can also grab a sandwich and take a stroll along to Alexandra Park and spend the day there. A great place for a sit in meal as well - we can’t recommend it highly enough.

Right on the edge of the east end but it has one of the best sun terraces in town so it would be mad to miss it. Sitting right next door to the Tennents brewery and right in the shadow of the Necropolis, they serve food, their own brewed craft beer and you should keep a close eye open for the live gigs and events that run throughout the year.

Situated in the spectacular Templeton Building, West is now well established as one of Scotland’s most popular small breweries. Aside from their range of brilliant beers and great German grub, the setting itself is the real prize here. There are few better places to spend a hot summer’s day than the West beer garden, with its view out over the neighbouring People’s Palace and Glasgow Green.

This place as really led the Barras revival and breathed new life into Barras Art and Design (BAaD) - one of Glasgow’s hidden gems. The building is stunning. The big glass roof makes it feel al fresco and there is a recently converted yard outside. As for the food, this is one of Glasgow’s finest fish restaurants. One other detail - look out for events. The courtyard hosts plenty of them and you can happily pop in for a drink as well.

The east end’s newest spot is a barbecue lover’s paradise - and it’s right across from the Barrowlands, so you’re onto a winner if you fancy a cheeky burger before a big gig. The French dip steak sandwich catches our eye every time, or you can go classic with Aberdeen Angus beef, buttermilk fried chicken or the Whole Hog, topped with pulled pork, bacon and bourbon barbecue sauce. Not only that but they have their own garden!

With the Barras in the midst of a revival, the decision to turn this old parish church into a state of the art bar/kitchen and arts and music venue was a shrewd one. You can’t miss it, it’s just around the corner from the Barrowlands and has a giant icon of the aforementioned saint outside. Inside The Winged Ox Bar and Kitchen fittingly serves ‘food for the soul’ and the refurb is one of the most eye-catching in Glasgow. And, when the sun’s out, they have seating outside.

The east end also boasts one of Glasgow's real few fine dining restaurants, tucked away inside a Victorian townhouse. Run by a local family, Bilson Eleven has to be one of the city's most unusual and truly unique eateries. And yes, while it is situated inside an old tenement and does not have outdoor areas, they do have a new summer menu that you need to try.
