Farm to Tub Goat Milk Soap
A homemade goat milk soap bar is a wonderful, handcrafted artisan experience! Meet and connect with our small milk goat herd of Nubian, Nigerian and Alpine goats. Our dairy goats are so sweet and fun. They love scratches on their heads and shoulders. We will start our class with a tour of our 8 acre urban farmstead where you will meet the goats, pigs and horses that call our farm home. We will explain a bit about care, feed and milking goats. Goat milk fact: goat milk is the only milk naturally homogenized and digestible by all mammals, hence the term nanny goat. We will be making a cold process soap with goat milk, coconut oil, olive oil, lard and lye. Safety first! Lye can be dangerous. We provide chemical resistant goggles and long cuff gloves. Please wear long sleeves and pants and closed shoes. We will weigh ingredients, melt fats and oils, prepare milk and lye mixture and learn about tracing and saponification. The soap mixture will be put into molds to set (soap is hard and ready to be unmolded in 24 hours and ready to use in 4 - 6 weeks). You will be leaving with aged bar of goat milk soap ready to be used on your skin and hair. We love our goats and our farm made goat milk soap and we look forward to sharing with you. Date Night Hand Making Rings
This is a hands-on class where guests will be taking metal and shaping it into jewelry. I’ll provide enough silver and/or copper for each guest to make a ring or a set of earrings. We’ll spend a short time going over safety and then you’ll have to decide what you want to make. I’ll provide examples of already made jewelry to use as templates if guests need ideas. By the end of the session each guest will have a piece of handmade jewelry to take home with them. Some date night couples like to make rings for each other instead of making jewelry for themselves. Other things to note Bring your eyeglasses. Come prepared to get your hands dirty and dress appropriately.
Snowshoe Adventure around Bell Reservoir
Hooray for snow! Let's hike in a winter wonderland together, basking in the fresh mountain air and Utah's famous "greatest snow on earth," hiking in Bell Canyon at the base of Little Cottonwood Canyon to see the commanding mountain rock walls and overlooking the Salt Lake valley below. We will meet at the Bell Canyon Trailhead, hike up to the reservoir, hike around the reservoir, and up to a quiet nook for a snack break and then hike back down. This hike is beginning/intermediate and lasts about 1.5 to two hours. I know the area very well as I trail run all these paths frequently in every season.
Private Tour of Utah's Dinosaurs
We'll begin with an in-depth tour of our Past Worlds gallery and end with a behind-the-scenes visit inside our Paleo Lab. In the gallery, we will talk about dinosaurs found in Utah (some known exclusively from our own collections) and explore the ecosystems and adaptations that make these animals so fascinating. Inside the Paleo Lab, we will get a sneak peek at the projects that our paleontology volunteers are working on and learn about the techniques used to prepare our most recent discoveries. The tour is for adults and teens 13 years or older. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Maximum number of participants is 10. Admission is complementary with purchase of the experience. Admission fees cannot be deducted from the package price. Tour length is approximately 2 hours or so, depending on group discussions. Face masks are optional and not required.
Guided Four-Wheeler Tour
Have you ever driven past the beautiful mountains in Cache Valley on your way to Yellowstone National Park and had a burning desire to explore them. I'm not talking about a drive up the canyon, I am talking about really exploring the mountains. I will take you on your own personal four-wheeler ATV on a mountain trail. We will meet at one of the many trailheads. From there we will have a brief safety instruction session and some practice driving on the four-wheelers. We then head up the trail, each person on their own four-wheeler. I will lead the group along the trail, stopping along the way to take breathtaking photos of Mountain views, fields of wildflowers, and wildlife. We will enjoy a light snack and drinks and may even play in the snow drifts depending what time of year it is. When you are ready we will head back down the trail to our vehicle. People who have taken this tour in the past who are from outside the area leave with a sense of awe and with a connection to the mountain that you can't get any other way. As with any expedition into the mountains there is often times challenges and the group will grow together. We do everything in our power to keep these tours safe and fun. Keep in mind that 4-wheeling can be a dangerous activity.
