Private Pottery Wheel Lesson
After being introduced to the space and to each other, I will provide a quick demonstration on the wheel with a small amount of clay. Afterwards, each guest will be allowed time to create a piece on the wheel from beginning to end with personal instruction and assistance from me. Guests are welcome to make anything they would like to on the wheel! Cup, bowl, vase, dish, etc. (Please Read)The firing of pottery is a long process that is separate from the time we spend on the wheel. Each piece requires a two day long firing process in a kiln, and I hand glaze each piece. I offer kiln services out of my personal studio if you have interest in having your piece fired for a *small fee that is not due the day of the experience.* I do not include this in the price of the experience because some guests do not wish to keep their piece. Wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting some clay on. Clay will wash out, but you may not want to go out right after. The time noted on the experience, 2 hours, is generally descriptive of a 2 person experience which encompasses the majority of my bookings. In general, the experience is 1 hour per person. If there are 3 or 4 people in the booking, likely the experience will extend the 2 hour session time, and if there is 1 person in the booking it will be closer to an hour.
Vegan picnic with rescued animals
We'll start with a tour of the sanctuary where you'll meet a variety of rescued farm animals. We'll share their stories of resilience and healing and talk a bit more about the industries they come from. You'll love meeting our animal ambassadors and may be surprised at what you learn, since we so rarely see the animals in our food system. Join us afterwards at our picnic tables in the field for a glass of local wine and a vegan cheese and charcuterie platter. (Note: The platter contains nuts and gluten unless otherwise requested. Please inform us of any allergies when you make your booking so we can be sure to provide suitable options. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be served.) The Experience will last approximately 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Please be mindful that as a sanctuary for rescued animals, our priority is the physical and emotional well being of the rescued animals who call Charlie's Acres home. Our loved animal residents are completely free and always have a choice as to whether or not they want to interact with visitors. They will reside at the sanctuary for the rest of their lives, where we'll have the honor of taking care of them. Guided Russian River Kayak Tour
Our Sonoma Coast Kayak Tour takes you to the edge of the beautiful Pacific Ocean where we paddle the Russian River as it meets the sea. Birds, seals, and a fantastic paddle are just some of the highlights of this great day on the water. We meet in the small coastal village of Jenner where your guide will give a brief safety and paddling instruction before beginning the paddle. We spend 2-2.5 hours exploring the beautiful Jenner estuary keeping our eyes open for Harbor seals, cormorants, pelicans, otters, and bald eagles. Your local guide will explain why this is such a special area while discussing history, wildlife, and the weather unique to this ecosystem. If there is too much wind to paddle the coastal estuary we will instead explore a beautiful and peaceful section of the Russian River that meanders under redwoods and takes in more sun. I will contact you the day before your tour if that is the case.

Mendocino Historic District Walking Tour
Kelley House docents lead you on a beautiful and informative walking tour through the preserved-in-time 19th century village of Mendocino, designated as a National Historic Preservation District. The tour takes between 1.5 - 2 hours. Prepare to be entertained with colorful tales from the town’s rough and tumble past. Learn how a shipwreck led to the discovery of the redwood forest, which brought lumber mills that supplied California’s gold rush era building boom. Visit New England-style pioneer homes, find out why Mendocino is known as the city of water towers, admire gardens with 100-year-old roses, and hear the secrets of a haunted hotel. You’ll learn why so many movie directors have used Mendocino as a shooting location, and how an art renaissance in the ‘60s led to the town’s preservation. Enjoy Mendocino’s rich cultural heritage, from the Pomo tribe that lived here for thousands of years enjoying the bounties of the land and sea, to the European and Chinese immigrants who built the town you see today. The town of Mendocino is a 15 minute drive south from Fort Bragg, CA so if you are staying in that vicinity we hope you will come on our tour.

Murder, She Wrote Walking Tour
Murder, She Wrote fans will enjoy this walking tour of the landmarks that appeared in the hit TV show starring Angela Lansbury. You will begin at the Cabot Cove Historical Society (aka the Kelley House Museum!), then make your way to at least a dozen filming locations, including the 1888 Victorian residence of the mystery-solving character Jessica Fletcher. Visit Doc's house, the mortuary, the beauty parlor, and the famous inn where the suspects stayed. Murder, She Wrote was set in the fictional town of Cabot Cove, Maine, but Mendocino was chosen as the filming location for two reasons: the historic architecture resembles Maine’s and it was geographically much closer to Hollywood. You'll learn trivia about the show, we'll show you photos taken during filming, and we'll share the real history of the buildings you are viewing. We don't go into any of the buildings as the exteriors are what appeared in the TV show; the interiors were filmed on a set. We return to the Kelley House Museum, where you are welcome to watch our digital exhibit on Angela Lansbury.
