Golden Lotus Vegan

Everything served at this family-owned Newtown restaurant is full of flavour, and the servings are huge. My favourite dish is oyster mushrooms deep fried and dusted in chilli salt, served with brown rice. The beef rendang—Malay-style curry—with soy beef is also amazing, and the laksa has a rich curry base that is out of this world. If you have a big appetite, or just love vegan food, follow my lead: I often visit Golden Lotus and Gigi Pizzeria on the same night. I’ll eat dinner at Golden Lotus first, then have a pizza and dessert at Gigi.
