4.5-5 miles, moderate to difficult Sarts .6 miles west of the Discovery Center on Hwy. 38. You will need an Adventure Pass to park in the trailhead parking area. On the trail you will walk through a wide variety of natural environments. The first mile is a gentle uphill climb, but after a mile or so you will realize you are gaining altitude. The Cougar Crest Trail ends at the junction of the world-famous 2,600 mile long Pacific Crest Trail.

Dog friendly (must be on a leash) trail about 5 miles out and back, great views of Big Bear Lake and mountains. Moderate level difficulty so good for beginners and up. Paved parking lot with tables and benches so it's also good to picnic but get there early for that.
My personal favorite right now! This is a moderate trail, up and back the route totals out to 5.3 miles. The trailhead has a pretty beginning, and all the way up to the summit you'll have a beautiful view of the lake and valley, on the opposite side of the lake from downtown. When you want to take a quick scenic break, there are stools to sit and take everything in. It's dog-friendly, and in the springtime I've definitely seen flowers in bloom.
