Ma Rainey was considered the Queen of the Blues. She mentored Bessie Smith, an absolute favorite blues singer of ours. She also had Louie Armstrong in her band and they played around the corner from her house at the Liberty Theater (currently closed but opening back up soon). The home that she bought for her mother and later lived in has been turned into a museum. She led quite a notorious life, and is totally worth a Googl search to find out more.
