Taviistock is the local market town, 5.5 miles away. It is a thriving centre with many locally owned shops offering local produce and wares in addition to usual high street shops. There is a local theatre, several gyms, fun swimming pool and more serious swim training available at the Mount Kelly 50 m pool. Plymouth and Exeter also are within easy reach by car.

Half an hour by car, Tavistock is an ancient Stannary town on the edge of Dartmoor, offering everything that is quintessentially ‘Devon’. Bus routes from Plymouth to Tavistock are frequent.

Tavistock is a small but vibrant market town north of Plymouth. It has a bustling pannier market (Tuesdays to Saturdays), impressive architecture, riverside walks, and is a great place from which to explore Dartmoor.

The historic town of Tavistock is just 20 minutes away from your stay. You will travel through Dartmoor to get to Tavistock from here. The views are stunning, no matter the weather. Along your route you need to look out for Wheal Betsy, the lead and silver mine chimney. You can stop off in a layby to take in the scenery and walk across to get a closer look. On to Tavistock, set in the heart of Devon, this former Tin mining town has much to offer visitors of all ages. The beautiful park located between the canal and the river Tavy. There is a theatre, leisure centre, museum and the Pannier market offering local produce, arts and crafts. The history of the town is everywhere, from St Eustasies church the Adolph arms pub. See the bowling green where Sir Francis Drake contemplated before setting sail to destroy the Spanish Armada and look for the work done by the Duke of Bedford who built houses for workers. This leads you onto The Devon Great Console mines, where arsenic, manganese copper and tin were extracted from the ground. Visit Morwelham quay, (now deserted) but formerly the main port to transport metals and minerals from Tavistock . Buckfast Abbey is only a few miles out of the town which offers much to visitors. It is the former home of Sir Francis Drake and set in beautiful idyllic landscape where you can picnic and take in the surroundings.
