The Flåm Railway is one of Norway’s most popular tourist attractions and is regularly voted one of the world’s best train journeys. This spectacular and steep railway journey stretches from the high mountain station of Myrdal (867 meters above sea level) on the Bergen Line down to Flåm (2 metres above sea level) at the head of Aurlandsfjord. The 20-kilometre long train ride shows off Norwegian nature at its most beautiful and magnificent, and is a masterpiece of Norwegian engineering. The Flåm Railway is one of the world’s steepest stretches of line on normal tracks and is renowned for its spectacular turning tunnels that wind in and out of the mountains. 18 of the 20 tunnels on the Flåm Railway were constructed by hand. With rivers cutting through deep ravines, waterfalls tumbling down precipitous mountainsides, white peaks with small farms clinging to steep slopes, a journey on the Flåm Railway is a trip through Norwegian nature. The train ride takes you past the wild and beautiful Kjosfossen waterfall. The train stops here so passengers can get some air, enjoy the view and photograph the mighty waterfall. Myrdal is a station on the Bergen Line and trains on the Flåm Railway are timed to ease connections with services between Oslo and Bergen. The stretch is open all year round and the journey time from Myrdal to Flåm is about one hour.

The Flåm Railway has been described as one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world and is one of the leading tourist attractions in Norway. The train runs from the end of Aurlandsfjord, a tributary of the Sognefjord, up to the high mountains at Myrdal station. The journey features the finest aspects of the stunning scenery of Western Norway.

Flåm witch most ride the 20-kilometre (12 mi) Flåm Line between Flåm and Myrdal, one of the steepest railway tracks at 1 in 18 (not counting rack railways) in the world. There are also a few spirals. A former rail station building in Flåm now houses a museum dedicated to the Flåm railway.

Flåm is an hour's drive away. The Flåm railway "Flåmsbana", which is called the world's most beautiful railway trip, and a Fjord cruise on Nærøyfjorden are very popular in Flåm. The newly opened Flåm zip line is Scandinavia´s longest with a span of 1381 meters, speed of 100 km/h and a spectacular view. Tip for a day trip to Flåm: Take Flåmsbana to Vatnahalsen, the zip-line down, enjoy a waffle with home made goat cheese and the friendly goats at "Rallarosas stølsysteri", then rent bikes to ride along Rallarvegen back to Flåm. I recommend to buy tickets and order bikes beforehand.
