French Marin Cheese Factory

It’s a lovely setting for a picnic by a pond, or to just pick up cheese and picnic supplies. It’s the oldest continually operating creamery in the country—they just celebrated 150 years in business. They’re known for their French-style cheeses, including Bries and Camemberts. The Marin driving loop on the app and website I started, Cheese Trail, begins here, then heads to Nicasio Valley Cheese Company and Cowgirl Creamery’s Point Reyes outpost. It’s a great introduction to Marin County’s cheese culture and a scenic way to explore the North Bay.

Locally made cheese before locally made cheese was cool. You can get this in local stores or go right to the source. Check to see if tours are happening.
