Beautiful abby with good exhibitions. Don't forget to visit its beautiful gardens. Those gardens are also a nice spot to picnic during summer.

Marvel at the Sint-Pietersabdij Abbey. One of the biggest abbeys in all of Belgium, the St Pietersabdij was the center of Ghent for a long time and the city began to grow outwards from the abbey. The orchards and gardens are free to explore and are a great place to be on a summer’s day. The abbey itself boats an impressive mural in what was once the monk’s refectory and a state-of-the-art video tour lasting an hour and a half. If you are rushed you can easily select just a few points from the tour before moving on.

The garden of this abbey is without a doubt a hotspot in Ghent, not least popular with the students of Ghent for chilling out or studying under a radiant sky. A must see during your citytrip. The refectory wing of St. Peter's Abbey is authentic medieval. The ground floor of St. Peter's Abbey can be visited free of charge (hallways, courtyard and the garden of the abbey).
