Halkakas is legendary. The place only uses fresh Hungarian ingredients not deep frozen fish. Hungarian fish dishes prepared in an unexpected way. There's a daily menu too. (welovebudapest.com)

Perhaps the only place in Budapest that offers a cheap lunchtime menu based on fish. Other fish places are on Andrassy Ut.....one is Northsea or similar name, salmon etc, from Norway I think...and another one fairly close to there on Andrassy. Or fish is for sale downstairs in the market hall.....but I havent been impressed when I have been to look. However I assume you can buy live carp for eating...since they are delivered live by the truck load to a depot on Csarnok Ter....interesting to watch....as shifted in trolleys from the truck to the buidling, again and again. So it must be one of the main storeage points in the city for the arrival of live carp.

Tiny little buffet restaurant, offering local fish. Also take-away. We like it.
