Hemlock Ravine Park is 200-acre habitat with opportunities for walking, nature observation, and relaxation. The 4-km stacked loop trails offer many routes for jogging and observation of nature in all seasons. New maps and signage assist in navigating the trails. The heart-shaped pond known as Julie’s Pond was built by Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, for his mistress. (Note: Please do not feed the waterfowl.) The round white building opposite the park is a historic site but is not open to the public.

Close to home with many trails to be hiked, including one that leads to a heart-shaped pond.
Originally a country estate built in 1780 for Lieutenant Governor John Wentworth, Hemlock Ravine is now one of the city’s most beloved urban nature parks. Located off of Halifax’s busy Bedford Highway, it’s tucked behind residential neighbourhoods and housing complexes that quickly disappear upon entering the park. The trails are well marked and maintained with regular signage, maps, benches and garbage cans throughout.
