Sheltered from the wind, the sun warms our backs as we sit and watch the sunshine glint off the still water. If we stand we can see miles of moorland stretched out before us, Great Mis Tor and Little Mis Tor behind us and Kings Tor to the right. Although less than 20 minutes drive from Tavistock, we could be in the middle of nowhere.

There is limited parking at Yellowmead. A flat ten minute walk to this stunning quarry which is a favourite for Royal Marines training and other rock climbing enthusiasts. You can walk around the basin of the quarry and a steep path takes you up to the top of the quarry for some fantastic views across Dartmoor.

Long abandoned granite quarry with wonderful long distance views. Wild swimming for the adventurous. Don’t be surprised to find Royal Marine Commandos training on the sheer quarry faces. Great spot for the keen photographer. 10 minute level walk down track from the Barn.
