The Sheffield Mine in Franklin (about an hour away) is a great place to go gem-mining. Fun for adults and kids! Franklin also has many other gem mining locations, as well as stores, shops, etc.

Franklin is the Gem Capital. Sheffield in Cowee, known for their rubies.

People travel from all over to check out these mines but the gems you find here are nothing less than superb not to mention they will teach you all the know !
